    SHS Operetta Presents:

Sequim High School and the Sequim High Operetta Club are proud to present our 50th Annual Operetta! To celebrate this special occasion the Operetta Club has chosen the new and revised Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA to present May 6 – 21 at the Sequim High Auditorium. The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn and includes hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.

The story is based upon the fairy tale Cinderella, about a young woman (Alysha Graham) forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother (Brittany Rives), who dreams of a better life. With the help of her Fairy Godmother (Victoria Hall), Cinderella is transformed into an elegant young lady and is able to attend the ball to meet her Prince Topher (Nicholas Fazio). In this version, she must open the Prince's eyes to the injustice in his kingdom in spite of the Topher’s close advisor Sebastian (Ryan Macedo). With the help of a local revolutionary (Jack Dismore) who falls for Gabrielle (Nikole McElhose), one of the stepsisters, the Prince leads the way to make the kingdom one in which the citizens can flourish. Other principal characters include Lord Pinkleton (Seth Mitchell), and Charlotte (Colleen Carpenter)

The 2013 adaptation of Cinderella still includes the Rodgers and Hammerstein score but includes several new characters and a sympathetic stepsister. The score features several new Rodgers and Hammerstein songs. It was nominated for nine Tony Awards and one the award for best costumes. Other highlights of the show include Cinderella’s dress transformation, the flying Godmother, a magical pumpkin and carriage and other impossible special effects!

Robin Hall directs with John Lorentzen as the music director and orchestra leader. Abby Norman, a sophomore, takes the lead as Choreographer, complete with ballroom dancing. Jared Kneidl, a senior, is Assistant Director as well as Lighting Director.

The show opens with a premier gala event complete with red carpet, and opens the 9 performance run on Friday, May 6th at 7:00. Special dignitaries will be invited to this performance along with general audience seating with special ticket pricing of $10.00 per seat. A special 2:00 matinee will be presented on Saturday, May 7th. There will be a 7:00 curtain on May 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21.

Advanced tickets can be purchased on the Sequim Operetta Club website, www.shsoperetta.org or www.showtix4u.com starting on April 1st. The box office will open 1 hour prior to each performance. For more information, please contact Robin Hall, Director at 460-7860.
