  • Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our district's teachers have voted to participate in a one day work stoppage that will occur Monday, May 18, 2015. They are joining other teachers across the state with the intent of influencing the Washington State Legislature to meet the requirements of the Washington State Supreme Court's McCleary decision to adequately fund public schools. This work stoppage is not an action against the Sequim School District. As a result, Sequim School District Board of Directors approved May 18 as a no school day. Scheduled after school extra-curricular activities will continue for that day.

State law requires students attend school for 180 days in a school year. Prior to the work stoppage, the last day of school was scheduled to be June 17. The Board of Directors has added a make-up day onto the end of the school year. The last day of school will now be June 18 with an early release, and June 17 is now a full day of school. Seniors will not be required to attend school on June 18. The last day for seniors to attend school remains June 11.

We realize calendar changes can be disruptive to families, and we apologize for any inconveniences due to these changes.

    Sincerely,

    Kelly Shea
    Superintendent
