From Supt. Gary Neal:
The health of our students and staff is a top priority in the Sequim School District. When the lead in water issue surfaced last spring, we contacted the Clallam County Health Department and asked for direction for water testing. Clallam County PUD and the City of Sequim were brought on board as well. Since then, Helen Haller and Greywolf Elementary schools have been tested and retrofitted, under direction from the Health Department. We have been directed to retest after the school year begins in fall 2016.
We are committeed to our plan to ensure that water quality is safe throughout the District. Please continue to check our website for updates. For more information, click on Drinking Water Safety.
An Active Shooter Training Drill event is scheduled for Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Greywolf Elementary School in Carlsborg. The drill begins at 12:30 p.m. and concludes at approximately 4:30 p.m. Several local law enforcement groups are taking part in the drill as well as Fire and Medic personnel.
All schools within the Sequim School District will be in modified lockdown during the drill, and won’t be open to the public. In addition to Greywolf Elementary (the site of the exercise), Helen Haller Elementary, Sequim Middle School, Sequim High School, Olympic Peninsula Academy and the District Office will all be closed.
Multiple emergency vehicles will be on site and there may be temporary road closures during the drill, so motorists may want to avoid the area because of traffic congestion.
This year, the district is introducing an all-online system for volunteer clearance. Beginning August 18, individuals interested in volunteering in Sequim Schools may begin an online volunteer application process for the 2016-17 school year at https://sequimvolunteers.hrmplus.net/. The online application process requires an e-mail address and provides step-by-step assistance. A current Washington State driver's license or state ID card is required in order to run a background check.
